Captain’s Day

Skipton Golf Club Captain Steve Clayton held his annual competition for both the men’s and ladies’ sections recently. Top of the pile in men’s division one was up and coming junior golfer Ben Topper with 41 points just ahead of Alastair Woodhead. Division two was a closer contest with Richie Forrest on 39 points taking first place after a countback with another junior Harry Ayrton.
The winners of each ladies’ division respectively were Gillian Brown, Pat Eaton and Kay Donoghue.

Bradford Team Championship

The Skipton outfit of Matt Ryder, Chris Payne, Rob Nesbitt and Max Berrisford secured 4th place in the Bradford Team Qualifying medal at Cleckheaton last week. Matt Ryder was the standout performer with the best gross score on the day of 71. The team now qualifies for the finals to be held in July. A particular mention should go to Robert who didn’t score too well on the 9th hole at Cleckheaton but who showed the resolve and metal to not let it bother him too much and finished strongly. Well done team!

Ladies’ Team Matches

The A Team were back in action against Headingley on Monday. On what was described as a lovely course and very enjoyable rounds, the team played some excellent golf but were unfortunately beaten on the day 6-1. However, they will be out for revenge next Wednesday when they return for the home leg. Good Luck Ladies! The B team managed a 5 to 2 home win against Ilkley this week in revenge for a similar win by Ilkley on their home course.

Last Sunday, the in-form player, Jason Titorenko and Matthew Oxley played at Bradford Moor Golf Club in the BDRGA Chippendale Trophy. They didn’t have the greatest of starts but Bradford, brimming with confidence, then became slightly worried as our team pulled it back to 1 up after 9. In the glorious sunshine after severe downpours on Saturday, Matt and Jason eventually won the match 3&2 and go forward to the third round against Halifax or Baildon.

Skipton Golf Club Juniors learnt that there will be no easy matches in Division 1 this year when they came up against Bracken Ghyll away on 13th May. Skipton’s Max Beresford (HCP 6) was first out against Will Mawson (HCP 9) and with fast greens and tight fairways it was Will who ran out the winner on the 17th, 2 and 1. Skipton’s Ben Topper (HCP 11) was giving a shot to his opponent Findlay Robertson (HCP 12) and after clawing his way back from 3 down after 4 Ben was unable to hold a resurgent Robertson on the back 9 who completed the task again on hole 17, with a 3 and 1 victory for Bracken Ghyll. Hannah Eaton (HCP 12) found Greg Wood (HCP 17) in fine form and giving 3 shots was unable to hold Wood who ran out victor 6 and 4.
