SENIORS SPRING OPEN RESULTS

Our first Open of 2023 took place on Thursday 20 April .  The strong wind throughout the day meant the course looked at it's very best but proved difficult for many players which is reflected in an average score for the day of just 33, well down on previous better ball competitions. In spite of difficult conditions, everyone thought the course was terrific and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The one overseas competitor, from Metz in France, thought it was "tres difficile" although he did try to claim a prize for the longest drive!!!! The winners were:- 1st £100 each Brian Evans and Stewart Moscrop from Dunnerholme & Barrow respectively with 41 points (after countback) 2nd £70 each Neil Bremmer & Bill Watkinson both from Ulverston also with 41 points 3rd £50 each Stuart Knowles andJohn Ashurst both from Pleasington with 40 points 4th £35 each Stephen Briggs and Dave Bowen from Rossendale & Rochdale respectively with 38 points (after countback)

Skipton Golf Club elects officials for new season

Newly appointed at Skipton Golf Club are, from left, Nick Shaikh, president, Ros Moloney, ladies captain, and Ian Sewell, men’s captain. Skipton Golf Club has elected new officials for 2020. Nick Shaikh succeeds Tom Hayes as president, while Ian Sewell takes over from Bill Simpson as men’s captain, and Ros Moloney from Carolyn Murphy as ladies captain. Nick, who lives in Ilkley, came to Yorkshire 26 years ago as a consultant urologist at Airedale General Hospital, Steeton, and has been a member at Skipton ever since he arrived. “I considered it to be an honour to be elected captain of the club in 2011 and feel the same for being the president this year,” he said. New men’s captain Ian Sewell also has a medical background. He was born in Barrow in Furness and has lived in Sutton-in-Craven for the past 40 years, moving there initially to work at Johnson & Johnson in Gargrave for 17 years, where he finished in the role of site production manager, before setting up his own business consultancy advising and managing projects on medical manufacturing. From 2011 to 2017, he headed a decontamination company, IHSS, in London as managing director for six years before retiring. He and his wife Christina have two children and three grandchildren. Ian joined Skipton Golf Club in 2014. He commented: “Despite the inclement weather last year, the greens staff managed to maintain the course to an excellent standard and our strategic aim will be to maintain the continuous improvement that’s been seen over the last few years in presenting the course in an ever-improving condition.” Ian noted that the junior organiser role was now open due to Sylvia Eastwood’s retirement and [...]

Ajay Update

Update on Ajay Phil and Cheryl Bright have asked me to pass on the good news about the little boy needing life-changing surgery for whom your generous donations were so gratefully received. The Government has now announced it will begin funding SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) which means Ajay should be able to have the operation on the NHS However, the operation is only the first part of the procedure, and lengthy and necessary therapies will still require funding. Our donations will therefore be crucial to ensure the long period of physiotherapy can be completed. Phil Bright has promised to keep us updated.

Help Ajay Walk £355 Raised

AJAY - £355 RAISED Phil and Cheryl Bright are overwhelmed at the generosity of our members’ donations towards the £40,000 needed to help Ajay walk properly. My thanks too to you all for supporting such a worthwhile cause and to Peter Robinson for allowing me to be active during his Professional’s Days this year. I know Phil and CheRyl wish me to pass on their sincere thanks for your efforts and they will keep us informed about the progress of their future fundraising events which will continue throughout the summer and include a large raffle too. They have so far raised in excess of £7,000 towards the operation and therapy the little boy will require but there is clearly some way to go. We wish them a successful outcome.
