The final Seniors Open of the 2023 season took place on Thursday 14 September. The results were :- 1st prize of £80 each to Ken Woolford and Iain Hunter from Hanging Heaton Golf Club (10.00 am start) with 45 points 2nd prize of £50 each to Neil Lomas and Joe Desa from York Golf Club (11.00 am start) with 42 points and a back nine of 21 points 3rd prize of £35 each to John Robinson and Richard Bews from Knaresborough Golf Club (10.50 am start) and a back nine of 18 points We would like to thank all of the participants and hope to see you all again at Skipton in 2024.
The Summer Mixed Open took place on Sunday 25 June. First place with 46 points and £80 went to Daniel Wright and Jennifer Lea from Chorley. Ryan Nock from Waterton Park and Joanne Robinson from Skipton came in second with 44 points and collected £60 each. In third place winning £40 each were Steve & Julie Langton from Oakdale with 43 points (after countback) and fourth place went to Jim & Anne McFeat from Fairhaven who also had 43 points and won £30 each. We hope everyone enjoyed the course and will be back to play again in one of our Opens either later this year or in 2024.
A very well attended Ladies Open Competition took place on Friday 23 June with fabulous weather, the course being in great condition. The rain stayed at bay until the last ladies finished. There were some excellent scores and we received many compliments on the course and our hospitality. We raised £462 for this year’s Club Charity – Sue Ryder Manorlands. Thank you for all your support. The winning team of Judy Lovett, Carol Capstick, Cath Halstead & Agnes Crohill from Bentham with 101 points (scoring 33 points on the par 5s) receiving £75 each. In second place were Susan Horridge, Janet Payne, Karen Dowling & Eileen Mallinson from Greenmount with 96 points receiving £55 each and in third place were Jane Phillips, Margaret Rush, Sue Ashby & Christine Nuttall from Bacup with 92 points receiving £30 each.
A well attended Seniors Open competition took place on Thursday 15 June in glorious weather with the course looking magnificent. The Spring Men's Open took place in glorious sunshine on Sunday 7 May - everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Paul Washington and Joe McDermott from Wakefield Golf Club took first place and £75 each with 41 points (after a countback). Second place and £60 each went to Keith Shore and Ian Shore from Concord Park (also with 41 points). The third and final place went to Martin Rourke and Stephen Webster on 40 points from Wakefield & Low Laithes taking home a £50 voucher each. The winners with 44 points were Stephen Sear from Ogbourne Downs and Colin Harness from Styrrup Hall each receiving a voucher for £75. Second place (£60 each) were Matthew Best from Norwood Park and Jeremy Webster from Lightcliffe with 43 points, after a count back. Third place from Keighley were Gerry Waterhouse and Dave Battle (£45 each). The Summer Mixed Open took place on Sunday 26 June on a somewhat windy day ! The winners with 43 points were Paul and Rachel Miller from Catterick Golf Club. The runners up with 41 points, also from Catterick Golf Club were Michael Pratt and Ruth Suffell. Cameron Brophy and Maureen Gibson from Shipley Golf Club secured third place with 40 points. Fourth, and final place, went to David Doig and Jane Hutchinson with 38 points from Bondhay Golf Club. Our final Mixed Open takes place on Sunday 4 September - the dates for next years' opens will be released around November.
We would like to thank all the teams who participated in our Ladies Open on Friday 24 June. £385 was raised for this year's Club charity - Sue Ryder Manorlands - thank you so much. The winners were from Greenmount GC, scoring an impressive 95 points! Congratulations to Kerry Vicker, Nicola Daisey, Helen Finbow and Julie Benyon. The Keighley & Branshaw team of Janet Emmett, Shirley Leeming, Emma Watkinson and Kath Smith secured second place with the overall best back nine of 53 and a total of 93 points. Annette Jewett, Lisa Driver, Sue Malins and Pam Flaherty of Bradley Park GC came third with 93 points and the overall best front nine of 47 points. Fourth place went to Bentham's team who scored 91 points. Well done to Judy Lovett, Carole Capstick, Agnes Crohill and Cath Halstead. The Elland & Crossland Heath team of Elena Abbott, Helen Gatenby, Lis Taylor and Carol Gaunt came fifth with 88 points. Special mention to Ellie Cooper from Greenmount who agreed to become "Freda" for Easingwold. Her score helped to secure 6th place, missing out on the prizes by one point on the back nine. We certainly enjoyed looking after you and hope you see you again soon. Our Autumn Open will be 7th October 2022 and the 2023 dates will be published around November.
The Summer Seniors Open took place on 16 June on a glorious summers day. The course was in perfect condition and the 4BBB competition first prize of £100 each was won by David Green and Steve Vine from Rossendale Golf Club with a score of 45 points. Second place taking vouchers of £80 each went to David Parry & Tim Jones from Ripon Golf Club with 43 points (after a back nine count back). In third place and collecting £60 vouchers were Peter Cooper and Andrew Atkins also with 43 points (with a back nine of 22) from Scarborough Northcliffe. Paul Miller and William Banks from Catterick took fourth place, and vouchers for £45 each, also with a score of 43 points and a back nine of 21 and fifth and last place in the prizes went to Andy Birbeck and Alan Green from Burnley Golf Club who collected vouchers for £30 each with a score of 42 points (back nine of 23). Congratulations to Richard Blackman from Worsley Golf Club who won the main raffle prize of a voucher for two to enter any of our Opens between now and June 2023 - all other prizes consisting of wine and beer were claimed on the day. We have one more final Seniors Open on 15 September and we hope to see many players return.
