CAPTAINS ‘DRIVE-IN’

Skipton Golf Club’s Men’s and Ladies’ Captains, Bob Jarman and Lorraine Raeburn, have swung into action with the annual 'drive-in' to mark the traditional tee-off to the new 2023 season, staged as part of an extremely well-supported mixed competition day on Saturday. (April 1) With the club in fine heart both on and off the course, both Captains say they are looking forward to a highly successful season. Bob commented: “I hope to bring the various sections of the Club together more often and promote the social side of golf as much as we can. I think the opening day’s turnout of over 140 golfers was fantastic and hopefully signifies the start of a superb year of golf for all at Skipton Golf Club.” Lorraine said: “Wherever possible I am keen to encourage new children members to attend our junior coaching sessions - two of my own grandchildren are already involved. We also have beginners coaching and academy membership leading into full membership, while new lady members will be assigned an individual mentor from our ladies committee to integrate them into our section and assist them in obtaining their handicap.” Both captains will be staging a series of fund-raising events throughout their year in office in aid of their joint charity, Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope. These include a standalone charity golf day on Saturday, April 22, further fund-raisers at Open Events and selling season tickets for the Captains’ Charity Bunker and Stream – two hazards for which a nominal fine is normally paid. Lorraine is also planning a coffee morning in May at a home venue to further boost the kitty, while Bob will continue to auction off his [...]

On Course Foundation

On the 13th June we held our annual charity event on behalf of the On Course Foundation, organised by long standing Skipton Golf Club member, David Rasche. On Course Foundation supports the recovery of wounded, injured and sick Service personnel and veterans through golf. Their mission is to build confidence and self-belief in their Members through golf skills and employment events, and set them on the path to meaningful employment opportunities in the golf industry. As a sport, golf offers a unique platform where players of all skills and backgrounds can compete healthily, improving not only their physical but mental strength too. With many lacking self- belief, it’s their aim to help their Members realise their potential and set them on a fulfilling career path. Please see note below from David Rasche: I wanted to drop you a personal note to thank you very much for your part in making our charity day such a success. Sixteen business teams and fourteen individuals took part on a nice warm day at Skipton, at least until the last 6 holes when the downpour started! Next time I will let Bob Beckett choose the date so he can't blame me for the weather! The course was in excellent condition and everyone enjoyed themselves despite getting wet. The evening meal was again very well received with the vast majority of players staying for the dinner, auction and prizes. There was much good humoured banter during a very successful auction for holidays in South Africa, driving an Aston DBR1 replica and a Porsche round their track, as well as golf days at Gleneagles, Royal St Georges, Prince's, The Warren and Royal Blackheath. The first prizes of large Lewis & Cooper [...]

Charity Auction Night

A slightly belated report regarding the fantastic effort put in by Jenny Williscroft in organising a Charity Auction night at the club which raised £1,600 to be split equally between Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support. It was a very successful event with the amount raised totally exceeding Jenny’s expectations. Hospice fund raiser Karen Jones said, “we are so thankful to Skipton Golf Club for choosing to support Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice”. Thank you to everyone who supported this event with special thanks to Jenny for her energy and enthusiasm in driving this charitable effort on behalf of the club.
