SKIPTON WOMEN TRIUMPH IN HDU WINTER ALLIANCE!

On Monday 3rd February Skipton was represented in the 5th match of the HDU Winter Alliance at Knaresborough Golf club by Sarah Coy, Sophie Eddison, Lorraine Raeburn,  Helen Gatenby, Elaine Toft and Nicola Gamble. The greensomes format favoured our team pairings very well with the three pairs racking up a huge 121 stableford points!! 12 points clear of the rest of the field. The team also claimed first and second prizes. This resulted in a magnificent win for Skipton and adding the maximum 13 points to the overall season scores. Well done ladies! Skipton are now in 4th place overall with one match remaining in our first year competing in this league.

PARALYMPIC GOLD MEDAL WINNER AWARDED SKIPTON GOLF CLUB HONORARY MEMBERSHIP

At a wintry Skipton Golf Club, Gregg Stevenson, sporting his Paralympics gold, receives his honorary membership from men’s captain Andrew ‘Ollie’ Burton, joined by David and Diane Rasche, right, and club chairman Ian Sewell. Local Paralympics gold medallist Gregg Stevenson has accepted an invitation to become an honorary member at Skipton Golf Club. Gregg, from Foulridge, a former commando who lost both legs to an IED in Afghanistan, undergoing a double leg amputation, struck gold in the Paris Paralympics when partnering Lauren Rowles to success in the PR2 mixed double sculls. This feat was further recognised when he received an MBE in the 2025 New Year Honours list, which recognises the achievements and service of extraordinary people across the UK. The accolade acknowledges his services to rowing. Gregg is no stranger to the Skipton course, having competed regularly in its On Course Foundation charity day organised annually by Ilkley businessman and Skipton member David Rasche. He was among 15 service personnel and veterans who participated in the 13th annual event last September, which raised £20,000, further boosting the magnificent £300,000 already realised previously. Skipton Golf Club chairman Ian Sewell explained that following the latest fund-raiser the board fully recognised that golf had been integral to Gregg’s pathway to recovery and unanimously agreed to offer him honorary membership “as our local Paralympic gold medallist and with the assurance that he also plays a mean game of golf!” With the privilege come full playing rights to compete in all competitions and full access to the course and clubhouse, with the added hope that Gregg might in return also become an ambassador for the club. WOMEN’S OPEN : 4 October 2024 Results

Thank you  to all the women who took part in our final Women's Open of 2024. Winners from Ulverston and Dunnerholme collecting £40 each were Trudy Hubbard, Sue Chapman, Lynne Diggle and Angie Hill with 88 points. Runners Up from Clitheroe were Jayne O'Sullivan, Debbie Catlow, Valerie Fairless and Stephanie Robinson with 81 points and £25 each. MEN’S OPEN 22 SEPTEMBER RESULTS

We would like to thank the 96 entrants who took part in our final Men's Open of 2024 yesterday (Sunday 22 September). The winners with 87 points (B9:44) and collecting £75 each were Gary Darbyshire, Glynn Dodd, Craig Currie & Mark Elliott from Accrington, Great Harwood & Wilpshire. In second place also with 87 points and a back nine of 43 were William Holt, Miles Bentley, Tom Duvall and Chris Jones from Pannal and Pleasington each receiving £50. The third and final place (again with 87 points and a back nine of 40 points) went to David Brooks, Nick Gill, Rob Timmins and Stephen Kilby from York, Ripon & Thirsk who each won £25. SENIORS OPEN 12 SEPTEMBER : RESULTS

40 pairs took part in the latest Senior’s Open on Thursday September 12th. The weather was cool but dry in the morning but some heavy showers later, including hail, didn’t help the later starters. In spite of this, the competitors were full of compliments about the condition of the course and most promised to return next year. Winners with 43 points were Stephen Sear from Ogbourne Downs (Swindon) and his cousin, Colin Harness from Doncaster winning £100 each. Second place with 42 points (back nine 22) were William Clarke and Cliff Newby from Springfield Golf Club (Rochdale). They win £70 each. Third place, with another 42 points (back nine 21), were Martin Hill and John Caveney from Bury Golf Club. They win £50 each. Fourth, also with 42 points (back nine 20 points) were John Robinson and Richard Bews from Knaresborough who win £20 each. Congratulations to all our winners and to everyone who played.  We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Competition Coups for Skipton GC Junior Girls

Two Skipton Golf Club junior members, both up-and-coming young lady golfers, have achieved high profile competition coups at county and regional level. Charlotte Moore  (15) from Carleton, Skipton won a Yorkshire Ladies County Golf Association Junior competition at Huddersfield Golf Club, while Lottie Tole (13) who lives in Kildwick teed up victory in the Northcliffe Golf Club, Shipley, Junior Open. Charlotte’s handicap is now down to 26.6, with Lottie Tole similar at 27.  Both have been playing at Skipton for just two seasons, having made great progress via the tuition of Ben Mallinson, PGA coach at Skipton, and more recently under Lucy Eaton, part of Joe Lovery Golf Coaching, which is also affiliated to SGC. Lucy lives in Skipton and is a well-known face at her local club. MIXED OPEN RESULTS : 1 SEPTEMBER 2024

Thank you to all competitors who took part in our Mixed Open on 1 September  and congratulations to the winners John Gilbertson, Shirley Gilpin, Daniel Wright and Jennifer Lea from Chorley & Carus Green who, with 90 points, took first place and £55 each. In second place after a back nine countback were Robert & Lynne Burke with Steve & Carolyn Clode from Kirkby Lonsdale with 85 points each winning £40. Taking third place, again with 85 points and after a back 3 countback, were Kenneth & Lynne Craven (Wilpshire) and Peter & Debbie Catlow (Clitheroe) who all receive £30. Our Professional, Peter Robinson, will be in touch with the winners to give details about their prizes. We hope everyone enjoyed playing the course and will return to one of our Opens in 2025.

LADIES TEAMS FLYING HIGH !

Pic shows some of the high-flying Skipton lady golfers, from left Women’s Captain Sarah Howes, Sophie Eddison, Pat Eaton, Nicola Gamble, Anne Acornley and Lorraine Raeburn. Two ladies teams at Skipton Golf Club are on a high after progressing to the later stages of two prestigious county level tournaments - both set to be decided next month. The club’s Weekend League team has won the Yorkshire Ladies County Golf League for the first time in many years, with the top four sides now qualifying for the final rounds to be staged at Horsforth Golf Club on Sunday, September 15.  The semi-finals will be played in the morning and successful teams then competing for the championship in the afternoon. It’s a three-person team, normally comprising long-standing members Anne Acornley, Pat Eaton and Sophie Eddison, with current Women’s Captain Sarah Howes also stepping in when required, together with Lorraine Raeburn and Andrea Walker The same ladies, plus Nicola Gamble, Helen Gatenby and Sarah Coy, feature in the four-person Skipton team which has also won through to the Three Counties Ladies League semi-finals, having finished second to Kirby Lonsdale in their division. They will be up against the best from Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria and will play against Carrus Green at Settle Golf Club on Saturday, September 14, making it a busy weekend for the ladies, with the successful team progressing though to the final to be played at a later date. A club spokesman said: “Many congratulations to the two high-flying ladies teams. SUMMER MIXED OPEN RESULT

The Summer Mixed Open took place on a beautiful sunny June day. Winners of the 4BBB Stableford competition were Adam Stansfield (Bracken Ghyll) and Nicola Gamble (Skipton) with 45 points who both won £60. In second place (£45 each) with 42 points were Mark & Hazel Cadman from Oulton Hall. Third place went to Ian Davies (Southport Old Links) and Diane Cooper (Ashton in Makerfield) with 41 points (£30 each) Fourth and final place with 41 points after a back nine countback went to Carl & Julie Livesey (Outlane) who each won £20. LADIES SUMMER OPEN RESULT
