Skipton Golf Club Ladies section B team members are pictured in their new Hesper Farm Skyr-sponsored team tops. Lady captain Carolyn Murphy is third from left and vice-captain Janet Emmett second from right. The Ladies section at Skipton Golf Club is sporting a brand-new kit, courtesy of sponsor Sam Moorhouse, of Hesper Farm Skyr in Bell Busk. The Ladies section runs A, B and weekend league teams, playing within the Yorkshire League, with friendly matches organised for later in the season for those new to the game. Sam Moorhouse’s diversification into Icelandic-style Skyr yoghurt has proved a real success story. He uses milk from the award-winning Aireburn dairy herd run by his parents Brian and Judith Moorhouse Lady captain Carolyn Murphy said: “We can’t thank Sam enough and we can only hope the Skyr’s the limit as far as our league performances are concerned this year!”
Lucy Eaton receives the Bradford & District Ladies Golf Championship trophies from Northcliffe Golf Club’s lady captain Lesley Eccles. Skipton Golf Club’s Lucy Eaton has won the 2018 Bradford & District Ladies Golf Championship. Played over three days at Northcliffe Golf Club, Shipley, last week, 22-year-old Lucy, from Skipton, finished among the top eight in the competition, open to all clubs in the Bradford & District Union of Golf Clubs, shooting both the opening day’s best gross and net to qualify for the matchplay. She then won the main competition by shooting level gross, going on to beat Northcliffe member and 2017 title winner Hannah Choudray in the final on the first extra hole by chipping in for a 2. It was the latest in a long line of golfing accolades for Lucy, who joined Skipton Golf Club as a junior in 2006 aged ten. She is a former junior captain and has now returned to the United States to complete her fourth and final year of university golf scholarship. Lucy figures among a good number of young, up-and-coming golfers who have progressed through the junior ranks at Skipton and are now making a name for themselves, at the same time helping to put the name of Skipton GC firmly on the map. England Under 18 Championships Another is Max Berrisford, of Steeton, who was called in to take part in the England Under 18 Championships, which took place at Fulford GC last week. Max, who has the lowest junior handicap in the Bradford & District Union of Golf Clubs, came within a whisker of qualifying for the knockout stages, though didn't quite make it. He joined Skipton as a 12-year-old and [...]
For those who have never played golf before, the thought of learning to play can seem a little daunting. There are several myths of golf that put off many people such as it’s expensive, it’s a stuffy game and it can take all day. One of the biggest myths is golf is a man’s game and this is the one we are trying to bust at Skipton Golf Club. Starting on Tuesday 4th April, we will be running a 4 week course of beginner lessons for ladies for just £20. The lessons will be at 6.30pm on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and all equipment will be provided. Ladies don’t need to be able to come the same day every week, all they need to do is let us know when they’d like to come and then turn up wearing warm comfy clothes and shoes. If you know of someone who is interested, ask them to contact Peter, our resident Professional on 01756 795657 option 3 or email Simon at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Captain’s Day Skipton Golf Club Captain Steve Clayton held his annual competition for both the men’s and ladies’ sections recently. Top of the pile in men’s division one was up and coming junior golfer Ben Topper with 41 points just ahead of Alastair Woodhead. Division two was a closer contest with Richie Forrest on 39 points taking first place after a countback with another junior Harry Ayrton. The winners of each ladies’ division respectively were Gillian Brown, Pat Eaton and Kay Donoghue. Bradford Team Championship The Skipton outfit of Matt Ryder, Chris Payne, Rob Nesbitt and Max Berrisford secured 4th place in the Bradford Team Qualifying medal at Cleckheaton last week. Matt Ryder was the standout performer with the best gross score on the day of 71. The team now qualifies for the finals to be held in July. A particular mention should go to Robert who didn’t score too well on the 9th hole at Cleckheaton but who showed the resolve and metal to not let it bother him too much and finished strongly. Well done team! Ladies’ Team Matches The A Team were back in action against Headingley on Monday. On what was described as a lovely course and very enjoyable rounds, the team played some excellent golf but were unfortunately beaten on the day 6-1. However, they will be out for revenge next Wednesday when they return for the home leg. Good Luck Ladies! The B team managed a 5 to 2 home win against Ilkley this week in revenge for a similar win by Ilkley on their home course. Rabbits Last Sunday, the in-form player, Jason Titorenko and Matthew Oxley played at Bradford Moor Golf Club in the BDRGA Chippendale Trophy. [...]
