The final was played on Saturday 19th September between Ben Topper and Hannah Eaton. Ben was giving 3 shots to Hannah who was in prodigious form and, after three holes was already 3 up. Ben was struggling and was not playing the golf we know he is capable of. However, by the fourth he steadied and halved the hole. Hannah, however, continued to play flawless golf parring holes with ease. A half on hole 8 gave Ben a glimmer of hope but this was quickly extinguished by Hannah who continued her rich vein of golf and ran out winner after hole 11. To his credit Ben never gave up trying and it should be a comfort and consolation to him when it transpired that Hannah had played the 11 holes in only one over par! Congratulations to Hannah as winner but also to Ben who accepted his defeat graciously. Both players were a credit to the Junior Section.

Two friendlies at home this week brought two hard fought victories. The 4-2 win against Bedale was not quite enough to compensate for the loss at Bedale and the newly acquired Skipdale trophy headed back up the A1. Similarly, Skipton's 3-2 victory against Shipley Beckfoot meant the visitors still took the tie on aggregate. Both visiting teams commented on the excellent condition of the course. The final match of this season is away at Ripon on Thursday next where we are defending a narrow lead.
Jenny, our Assistant Chef, is kindly arranging a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support on Friday 25th September 2015. All members and non-members welcome. Tea and coffee will be donated by the Club and Jenny will be baking some cakes. If anybody else would like to donate a cake, this would be appreciated. We will also be running a raffle on the day and again we would be grateful for any donations. This is to raise money for a great cause and although there will no charge for the cakes on offer we would appreciate any donations.
During flood relief work around our former 17th hole, our new interim course layout, designed by professional course designer, David Jones, is now in use. We continue to provide 18 excellent golfing holes at all times. The Environment Agency access their site from a newly constructed roadway from the Skipton bypass and there is no disruption to the course. The work to build two exciting ‘brand new’ holes and extend the current 9th into a par 5 will take place off the existing course, with no disruption to play during construction. Our full membership rate of £790 has been frozen for 3 years and brings with it many benefits including free golf exchanges at our 4 ‘partner clubs’, free public liability insurance within the UK and of a purpose built Clubhouse, providing high quality catering and bar services to members and visitors, whilst also generating income as one of the best Private Function venues in the area. Membership subscriptions run from April to March each year, but those joining part way through the year pay less than the full subscription for that year. Contact us for details. Skipton Golf Club Ltd is debt free, which guarantees a successful, secure and sustainable future for its loyal and committed members.
