On the 13th June we held our annual charity event on behalf of the On Course Foundation, organised by long standing Skipton Golf Club member, David Rasche. On Course Foundation supports the recovery of wounded, injured and sick Service personnel and veterans through golf. Their mission is to build confidence and self-belief in their Members through golf skills and employment events, and set them on the path to meaningful employment opportunities in the golf industry. As a sport, golf offers a unique platform where players of all skills and backgrounds can compete healthily, improving not only their physical but mental strength too. With many lacking self- belief, it’s their aim to help their Members realise their potential and set them on a fulfilling career path. Please see note below from David Rasche: I wanted to drop you a personal note to thank you very much for your part in making our charity day such a success. Sixteen business teams and fourteen individuals took part on a nice warm day at Skipton, at least until the last 6 holes when the downpour started! Next time I will let Bob Beckett choose the date so he can't blame me for the weather! The course was in excellent condition and everyone enjoyed themselves despite getting wet. The evening meal was again very well received with the vast majority of players staying for the dinner, auction and prizes. There was much good humoured banter during a very successful auction for holidays in South Africa, driving an Aston DBR1 replica and a Porsche round their track, as well as golf days at Gleneagles, Royal St Georges, Prince's, The Warren and Royal Blackheath. The first prizes of large Lewis & Cooper [...]
Skipton Golf Club's sponsor, West Craven Insurance Services, held its annual golf day on Friday 17th June at Skipton Golf Club, raising over £1,100 for Pendleside Hospice. Despite a little bit of rain, a great day was had by all and the winning team were Kevin Platt, Liam Bowditch, John McGeachie and our very own greenkeeper, Eliot Platt. Further details can be found in the following article in the Burnley Express: http://www.burnleyexpress.net/news/business/local-business/golf-day-raises-1-100-for-pendleside-hospice-1-7976316
Bradford Union Sue Ryder Salver The Bradford Union held their annual Sue Ryder Salver competition at Skipton on Thursday 9th June. The winners were the trio from West Bradford Golf Club of Mark Ryan, Glen Burrage and Craig Shaw winning with a 77 point total. Close on their heels were Clayton's Mark Wilber, Chris Foster and Carol Bray with 75 points. It was the first time a Union event has been held at Skipton since the temporary course alterations due to the EA work have been implemented and the comments were very favourable on the great state of our course. Junior Centenary Trophy Congratulations to Max Berrisford in winning the Junior Centenary Trophy and in doing so set a new Junior Course Record! His 69-5-64 was 7 shots better than his nearest rival Ben Topper who returned a net score of 71. Max's score is the best score received so far on the new course layout and will set a target for others in the junior section to aim for
Captain’s Day Skipton Golf Club Captain Steve Clayton held his annual competition for both the men’s and ladies’ sections recently. Top of the pile in men’s division one was up and coming junior golfer Ben Topper with 41 points just ahead of Alastair Woodhead. Division two was a closer contest with Richie Forrest on 39 points taking first place after a countback with another junior Harry Ayrton. The winners of each ladies’ division respectively were Gillian Brown, Pat Eaton and Kay Donoghue. Bradford Team Championship The Skipton outfit of Matt Ryder, Chris Payne, Rob Nesbitt and Max Berrisford secured 4th place in the Bradford Team Qualifying medal at Cleckheaton last week. Matt Ryder was the standout performer with the best gross score on the day of 71. The team now qualifies for the finals to be held in July. A particular mention should go to Robert who didn’t score too well on the 9th hole at Cleckheaton but who showed the resolve and metal to not let it bother him too much and finished strongly. Well done team! Ladies’ Team Matches The A Team were back in action against Headingley on Monday. On what was described as a lovely course and very enjoyable rounds, the team played some excellent golf but were unfortunately beaten on the day 6-1. However, they will be out for revenge next Wednesday when they return for the home leg. Good Luck Ladies! The B team managed a 5 to 2 home win against Ilkley this week in revenge for a similar win by Ilkley on their home course. Rabbits Last Sunday, the in-form player, Jason Titorenko and Matthew Oxley played at Bradford Moor Golf Club in the BDRGA Chippendale Trophy. [...]

Signature 16th Stunning Skipton. This is the verdict of Alan Hedley in the latest issue of Northern Golfer Magazine. Alan played the course very recently and was captivated by many aspects including Eller Beck which meanders through the back nine and comes into play on the three holes of the Club’s very own “Amen Corner”. He commented, “it is a tribute to the club that it has maintained an excellent 18 hole layout while work on a flood defence scheme has been ongoing and there are exciting plans to improve the course”. The very comprehensive article goes into great detail about the golf club, its course and facilities and Alan’s final comment was “a really fine test of golf in lovely surroundings and a joy to play”. A slightly belated report regarding the fantastic effort put in by Jenny Williscroft in organising a Charity Auction night at the club which raised £1,600 to be split equally between Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support. It was a very successful event with the amount raised totally exceeding Jenny’s expectations. Hospice fund raiser Karen Jones said, “we are so thankful to Skipton Golf Club for choosing to support Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice”. Thank you to everyone who supported this event with special thanks to Jenny for her energy and enthusiasm in driving this charitable effort on behalf of the club.
